A modelling study on quantifying the impact of urbanization and regional effects on the wintertime surface temperature over a rapidly-growing tropical city

Abstract Climate change and sustainability are among the most widely used terms policymakers scientific community in recent times. However, climate action or steps to sustainable growth cities global south mostly borrowed from general studies at a few large urban agglomerations developed world. There very modeling over Asia understand quantify impact of urbanization on even primary meteorological variable, such as temperature. Such quantifications difficult estimate due non-availability relevant long-term observational datasets. In this study, an attempt is made heat island (UHI), its transition, segregation regional effects rapidly growing tier 2 tropical smart city Bhubaneswar India. The model able simulate UHI for both land surface temperature, called SUHI, 2-m air UHI, reasonably well. Their magnitudes were ~ 5 2.5°C, respectively. It estimated that nearly 60–70% overall 70–80% temperature increase during nighttime between period 2004 2015 urbanization, with remaining regional/non-local effects.
